2019 Feudo Montoni "Vigna del Core" Perricone, Sicily, Italy
ABOUT THIS WINE
This Perricone "Del Core" is a fairly structured wine with a great personality that embodies all the flavors of the area. It is produced following the principles of organic farming that distinguish the company. This red wine is produced with only hand-picked grapes from the "Core" vineyard, a native vineyard at 500 meters above sea level where there are vines that are about 40 years old. After the manual harvesting of the grapes, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks. The fermentation lasts about 8 months, and after bottling there is a further rest in the bottle.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Feudo Montoni has been producing top-quality wines on its historic grounds since 1469, and is currently overseen by Fabio Sireci, the third generation of a family dedicated to producing the most refined expressions of this long-cultivated terroir.
Today, the certified organic winery produces many of Italyâs most celebrated 100% indigenous varietalsâPerricone, Nerello Mascalese, Catarratto, Grillo, Inzolia and Passitoâin addition to the purest expression of Nero dâAvola.
Sireci is particularly proud of the organic farming methods, artisanal cellar practices and renewable energy sources heâs implemented and maintained, which he says preserves the grapesâ natural flavors and nuances. âWe keep the vines rustic, so the foliage is free to express itself,â he says. âThe vineyards are not fertilizedâwe condition the land by sowing broad beans and peas, and we do not use any chemical products.â
All operations in the vineyard are undertaken completely by hand, and the results speak for themselves: thanks to the Sireci familyâs dedication and the vineyardsâ high altitude, fluctuating temperatures, plentiful rainfall and neighboring olive and wheat plots, Feudo Montoni wines have staked their claim among the finest in the region.
