ABOUT THIS WINE
2024 vintage was the hottest, driest and earliest harvest on record. Rainfall turned off like a tap at the end of September 2023, with nominally no rain until the season broke in May 2024. But with sunshine comes flavor and 2024 does not disappoint in fruit weight and concentration, with small but precise yielding 4.2 ton/Ha at Cullen Vineyard for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes were picked the 12th, 15th and 21st of February on 2 flower days and one fruit day. Skin contact time 5-11 days.
This wine is a straight blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, which has created a wine of great depth supported by delicious fine-grained tannins.

Cullen is a Margaret River icon that bridges tradition and innovation. Founded in 1971, it was one of the region’s original “Founding Four” wineries alongside Vasse Felix, Moss Wood, and Cape Mentelle. The family’s winemaking roots stretch back to the late 1800s, when Vanya’s great-grandfather, Ephraim Mayo Clarke, operated a small winery near Bunbury. After his death, the vineyards fell into neglect, but two generations later Kevin and Diana Cullen returned the family to wine. Both trained in medicine, they purchased farmland in Wilyabrup and, inspired by viticultural pioneer Dr. John Gladstones, planted vines in 1971. Diana taught herself to make wine and became one of Australia’s earliest acclaimed female winemakers, leading the cellar from 1981 until 1989, when Vanya succeeded her.
Today, Vanya is one of Australia’s most influential winemakers and a leading advocate for biodynamic viticulture. Under her leadership, the estate’s vineyards are fully certified organic and biodynamic, producing the flagship Diana Madeline Cabernet blend and Kevin John Chardonnay. Her work has earned widespread recognition, including Halliday Wine Companion’s Winemaker of the Year (2020) and inaugural Viticulturist of the Year (2022).
